The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

5.0

When I express I want to read an enemies to lovers novel, this is the type of book I mean. Holly Black has never failed to astound me with her ability to spin urban-fantasy tales, and this is no exclusion. I waited a long time to read this series, solely because I knew I was not the largest fan of her last faerie based books. However, let me just say this novel redeemed her faerie writing abilities! I literally could not put it down, (Rest in Peace to my college assignments).

I found myself fully immersed in this tale of two human girls swept away to live with their eldest step-sister's father. While I will admit the whole, "I bully you cause I love you" trope can be annoying at times Holly truly placed a lot of time into weaving this tale between Jude and Cardan to properly allow the trope to not feel stifling and like the others, which I highly commend (In addition, the whole side-plot with Locke legit almost made me toss my book cause I saw it coming). I loved the flow of the story all the way down to the plot with little Oak. And I swear, if anyone hurts this lil cinnamon roll, they're gonna have to deal with me.

To conclude, this story was spectacular, and I highly suggest at least giving it a shot.
