A Touch of Jen by Beth Morgan

1.0

it bore me to death

Here's a longer review since I can't stop thinking about how much I hate this book:

I hated the writing style, the dialogues kept changing between first and third-person pov and it pissed me off to no end. Remy the narrator for most of the book is the most annoying, insufferable, selfish, egotistical guy ever, and his thought process is disgusting and irking. He is like an energy-sucking parasite and his views on the world are so disturbing. Every character is annoying I don't care if this is supposed to be realistic they’re annoying as hell! The characters that I can recall their name (4 total) are so boring, bland, and have zero characteristics, you can blame this on the narrator but also maybe the author doesn’t know how to characterize their characters well enough. Jen the centre of the book is annoying like very insanely annoying she pisses me off every time she opens her mouth.
what I was told is the big “twist” in the book was so boring I thought I missed it. and by the time I reached the fourth part, I was crying wanting this book to end, but I pushed myself to finish this to see will anything fall in place or will it make sense in the last pages, of course, it didn't and I hated the ending too. besides, there arent any main, side, or background characters that aren’t white.(when they supposedly live in nyc this is very weird)
it was not funny at all I don't know why it is shelved “humor” nor why it’s shelved “horror” seeing how the only horror(that was executed very badly because of the author or the shitty narrator who knows) only appears in the last three chapters and gave absolutely nothing interesting.
this is disappointing, boring, a waste of time and a pretty cover, and shouldn’t have been published as it didn't give anything useful or entertaining at all.
also, there’s no way carmen maria machado read this and thought it was “funny, sharp, and surprising bittersweet”.
