We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Wow... I am honestly not sure where to start. There is so much in this little story. At first glance it is a trope teen summer romance best for beach reading and recovering from a more intense story. Do not be fooled; it holds far more than the pages within. There are discusses of racism, elitism, wealthy, privilege and holding far too much inside. There are characters who are not yet formed and so deliberate in their unformed beauty. There is sickness and there is the not dealing with sickness. And there is a fabulous twist that changes everything in the story in the last fifteen pages.
