Second Song by Con Riley

4.0

Oh Con Riley…you get me every time with these Glynn Harber lovelies and Rowan and Liam were the perfect addition to this sweet group of characters.

Rowan Byrn has been through a lot in his short life, but his bravery (whether he acknowledges it or not) keeps him going, pushing through to better himself and to overcome the obstacles in his way. Music is a fundamental part of his being, something he goes back to time and time again and finds comfort in it, despite some of the bad it brought into his life that he’s attempting to work through. He’s the perfect mentee for Charles and finds his way through play and the adorable children in Charles’ class, finding himself and his place at the school along the way. Rowan is cautious and reserved but opens up under the right circumstances, something he finds with not only the Glynn Harber crew but with Liam too.

Liam Sexton is a former military man who was medically discharged after a blast left him with tinnitus. He misses the military and his friends, but is carrying around a lot of guilt about how things ended during his service. Now that he’s back in the civilian world, he’s working as a demolition specialist and is one of the best in the business, traveling across the country for jobs and being called on for special cases like the Glynn Harber renovation. While Liam is large and intimidating, he’s also incredibly sweet and understanding and fighting his own battles to see that he deserves more from life than just moving from job site to job site, something that he finally picks up on when he meets Rowan.

Rowan and Liam have one of the craziest meet cutes, but it worked - I was hooked from the very beginning. I loved that they weren’t really afraid of pursuing anything once they were in the same place at the same time and didn’t try to hide their feelings. Their sweet smiles, genuine happiness to be in each other’s company and quiet encouragement made my heart happy. However I will say that this felt much more like Rowan’s story with Liam being a (super) supportive side character and it left me wanting a little more from Liam the whole time. But I loved the journey they went on together and the unwavering support and understanding between them, even when things got a little uncomfortable.

As always, I loved being back at Glynn Harber and seeing my favorites again in their natural habitat - it’s always a treat to spend time with these men and the students who they’re assisting to become the best versions of themselves so early on. I can’t wait for more in this new series!
