read about 9 chapters and the writing felt juvenile for my taste (it is YA after all) and the story and characters didn't feel compelling to me alongside the simple writing style. with the romance constructed as a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers, it felt so one-sided seeing how it went down for brooke and jesse on that led to them not on good terms before college (he made a move on her, got caught?, he would never kiss her, she felt embarrassed and became avoidant on talking to him on that night that they argued and stop talking). tho i left where brooke has issues with drinking bc of her dad and sister lauren that have led to her becoming type-A and fixated on people pleasing.
