I underestimated how well done and enjoyable this book would be. I expected a story more focused on a family finding out the cause of their loss, instead of learning all of the missteps, secrets, and yearnings of a family. Ng’s characters are splendidly developed with layers peeled back revealing who they truly are. I’m hopeful her other books will be as enjoyable to read.
