The World We Make by N.K. Jemisin

4.0

The sequel to [b:The City We Became|42074525|The City We Became (Great Cities, #1)|N.K. That said, I didn't like The World We Make quite as much. The plot was more jumbled, for one, and some key characters got barely any focus time. I wouldn't recommend the book for someone who hadn't read the first part - even having read it I had trouble remembering the backgrounds of all the avatars, and for better or for worse Jemisin doesn't spend a lot of time reminding us, except perhaps in the cases of Brooklyn and Padmini.

The introduction of real-world human politics felt a bit too on the nose for me. I don't disagree with the point Jemisin was trying to make with it but I thought it could've been a bit subtler and better woven in with the bigger plot about the other cities and the global danger they faced.
