Gave up after 42%. Something kept nagging me about the prose, and I figured it out. The author writes like it’s SUPPOSED to be for young adults, but it comes across as ham-handed and dull. Like talking down to a 12 year old, as if they’re 7. I guess I assume it’s a YA attempt. If it’s meant for adults, that make it more insulting. FWIW, I wouldn’t recommend it for 7 year olds either.
