Ricochet by Keri Lake

Woah. I knew this would be pretty dark but WHAT THE HELL did I just read?! Ever since I read the blurb of this gorgeous book, I knew I had to get this. Had to read it. I mean, come on ... doesn't it sound simply awesome? I'm usually not so much into books about revenge but this totally captivated me! Keri Lake's writing style is so good and easy to read but also so unbelivably thrilling. She managed to completely suck me into this world even though I didn't even want to be there ... you know, with all this murder and revenge thing going on but wow ...

"Even through destruction, life could continue to bloom in the oddest places."

Very dark, intense, thrilling and captivating even though it's horrible and you want to turn away from the book. Lots of horrible stuff is happening but at the same time ... well, it's like an accident: you want to look away but you can't.

This book just gave me lots of feels. The characters were so real and well developed with a background that just makes your heart ache. There were lots of scenes where I teared up a bit and had to take deep breaths after I finished a chapter. I guess that's why I read so slow ... you can only handle so many terrible scenes in one sitting. I just had to take a break a few times.

"Every scar told a story, but it was the ones we didn't want others to see that told a truth."

Nick Ryder, our main male protagonist, is one kickass guy! I really liked him and felt sorry for what he's been through. I wouldn't even wish that upon my worst enemies. He acted (and probably thought) he's a coldhearted, cruel bastard but I knew right from the beginning that there's so much more to him. And I'm glad he got Aubree to show him exactly that. He is kinda swoon-worthy and has this bad-boy attitude to him but then he shows you his sweet side and I'M SO ATTRACTED, OH GOD. But speaking of Aubree ... I freaking adored her, okay? In my opinion, she's one tough girl that - as Nick - had been through so much bullshit in her life but never gave up. She still had hope.  She's so strong and has more layers to her than you first think. That she's still capable of loving someone after everything is ... well, I admired her a lot. I really, really, really liked her scenes with Nick and I totally ship these two! SO MUCH!!

As I already mentioned a few times ... this book is pretty dark. Brutal. Intense. Terrible in so many ways but I couldn't stop reading. Keri Lake definitely did something right with her writing if she could so easily keep my attention. Plus, this book is HUGE. I tend to get annoyed or bored pretty quickly with such books - probably because I feel like I don't get anything done and am super slow - but it didn't feel like it with Ricochet. Definitely not!

"Nothing can be painted over black, though. No matter how many layers of color you paint, the blackness beneath it will always bleed through."

The ending was pretty good too although ... well, I wouldn't have minded a different ending. I can't tell you what I mean but the way it is now? I'm satisfied and happy! I expected some of the twists/mysteries, so the ending wasn't that much of a shocker to me but I still enjoyed it! I'm just glad that everything turned out how it should have.

I'd like to recommend this book to you, just because I feel like everyone should read it! If you're up for something a little different and darker, please consider picking this up - it's totally worth it and I'm sure you'll like it as much as I did ... or I hope so.
