A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine
5.0
I've been absolutely terrible about staying up to date with my reviews, buuuut: I am so glad I discovered the Teixcalaan series this year, so I could get a library hold on this book right as I finished book #1. I don't know if I could have waited a whole year to return back into this little universe, so I'm just glad I did.
I stand by my previous review, which praised Arkady Martine's clever writing and concepts and the overall readability of the story, and I love the shift she took in terms of genre. While A Memory Called Empire was full of intrigue and polical drama (court intrigue, mayhaps?), A Desolation Called Peace moves into the territory of first contact and military drama. I don't know how she does it, but Arkady Martine makes me gobble up all these genres I thought I would hate, simply because of how she writes her characters and how she populates her worlds. (I also just love the way the narrator now... narrates .. the story, if you know what I mean. Just. *chef's kiss. I love them all.)
What I'm trying to say is: when is the next book coming out? I want to know. Please.
