In the Long Run by Haley Cass
2.5
Would be a much better read if Taylor wasn’t so annoying and boundary-stomping and unself-aware (seriously, she has the self-awareness of a thumbtack). Multiple times while reading, a female version of Donkey from Shrek would pop into my head and let me tell you, whatever mood that could have been, was killed instantly. Reading about a forty-something-year-old woman with the mentality and emotional maturity of a teenager was eye-roll-enducing, to say the least. Plus there’s no resolution to the Savannah pregnancy plotline, and the father of the baby is forgotten about by the halfway point despite initially being heavily stressed as someone important. The ending, even besides that one topic, feels like it was rushed out because the author got bored and just wanted to wrap up the story as quickly as possible. And don’t even get me started on how predictable all the major plot beats were, ugh. Overall, I would not recommend this book to anyone, a real letdown in so many major areas, yet not bad enough to be entertaining.
