The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon
adventurous
slow-paced
3.5
There is a lot of characters to keep up with in Priory of the Orange Tree, and a lot of places and place names to keep in mind. It’s daunting at first trying to keep track of who is who and where they are on the map but it gets easier, and eventually things made sense enough to hit home. There’s a lot of fleshed-out lore and world-building, enough that I understand why people loved this book so much. Personally, I found that every character had the perfect amount of time dedicated to them for their stories to be told, and enjoyed every character that had POV chapters. For such a long book though I have surprisingly little to say about it. Everything was good, Tane and Ead were interesting opposites, Loth was fun to follow, and Nicklays was an easy favourite. Oh, the fight scenes and deaths also felt strangely rushed a lot of the time, which was a shame.
Might do a more in-depth later down the line but for now I’m happy just existing with the good vibes it gave me.
