Love, Lies, and Cherry Pie by Jackie Lau

Quite boring. It felt like the whole time I was waiting for Mark’s character to be interesting and I’ve hit like 40% and he still fails to capture my attention. It’s like this book spends so much time being like “Emily doesn’t like Mark because her mom wants her to be with him and she thinks he’s boring” that they forgot to make Mark actually funny and charming and interesting to subvert that. And I tire of the “quirky annoying meddling family” trope…when they’re POC I am always just reminded of my own experience sorry not sorry. And am I missing something here? And why in God's name did it just decide to be dual POV at the end? Mark's cat and the cherry pie didn't make an appearance until like 60% of the way through the book which led me to believe that they were just kind of thrown in belatedly. It was almost comical watching the author try to scramble and tie up the 362883 loose ends at the end of the book.
