A Marvellous Light by Freya Marske
☀️☀️☀️☀️☀️
▪️A remarkably polished debut novel that completely transports you into a world of murder, mystery and magic
▪️The magical lore of this story is clear, concise and deeply rooted in both history and nature that you can almost believe it's real
▪️Both Edwin and Robin are intricately drawn characters with believable, relatable flaws that are backed up by the familial supporting characters. Their dual perspectives are clear throughout and I found myself rooting for them at every moment
▪️The sexual tension was, well, tense! Their relationship was squeezed for every last drop of tension - the perfect grumpy/sunshine relationship with a touch of enemies to lovers vibe - and the payoff of the (very explicit) sex scenes really worked with their individual emotional journeys as well as being sexy, which is easier said than done
▪️Marske's prose throughout is exquisite. She writes like a painting, layer upon layer of beautiful description creating what amounts to a magnificent vista of a visual style throughout
▪️Frankly this book gave me everything I wanted from it and I'm so excited to read the next installment later this year!
"Beginnings and endings are powerful. Liminal states. You can create profound change if you slip in through the gaps."
