Alice Walker is one of my favorite authors of all time. I went into this book blind because I wanted my raw reaction especially with the audiobook. This book pushes me to think about everything that is going on around the world currently. Alice Walker released this book in 2018 and the same topics are being discussed now in 2024. This book is a beautiful piece of literature and one of my favorite books from Alice Walker. I love the fact that Alice Walker is the narrator of this book because this book is very personal. Alice Walker writing not only gives you hope but pushes to view the world through different set of eyes. Alice Walker writing should be apart of every school curriculum. Alice Walker talks about some of things happening around the world and the way forward for us. The “Welcome to the Picnic” part of the book made me reflect on my ancestors and the fear that had during that time period. I remember learning about a water down version of why black people did not like the picnic however, this gave me a true understanding why we never use that word to describe an outing or gathering.
