Showa: A History of Japan, 1926-1939 by Shigeru Mizuki

The art style really worked with the material. Making the main characters more cartoony made them seem more human. It also made for an interesting juxtaposition with the realistically drawn settings and wider world. I also thought the chapters on historical events and the chapters on the author’s life complimented each other well.
