You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle
5.0
5 - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Nicholas will obsess over who I'm wearing this kind of make up for until it gives him an ulcer. My reflection in the mirror tips her head back and laughs like her skin is about to burst open with a hundred flying demons.
Oh man did I have such a great time with this book! I haven't read a book that made me laugh out loud so much in a long while and I'm so glad I finally made the decision to read You Deserve Each Other considering that I was on the verge of a reading slump.
☑ Enemies to lovers
☑ Slow-burn romance
☑ Delicious sexual tension
☑ Comic relief
☑ Delightful banter
☑ Fun cast of characters
Even as the book explores a relationship that lost its spark, it doesn't wipe its comedic edge nor does it dilute the seriousness of the issues the couple deal with.
I finished this book feeling good and sated. Enemies-to-lovers is a trope I'm always craving as a reader but I've read some thag pulled it off perfectly and many that left me unsatisfied. I'm happy to say that this book falls under the former.
Naomi and Nicholas had such an interesting dynamic as a couple and even though they were already established as a couple early on, I mean come on they're engaged and live under one roof, you'd expect that the romance is probably past it's peak.
It definitely is not!
Even as they plan their lavish wedding under the pressure of Nicholas's mother and Naomi's future mother-in-law Deborah, they realize both were keeping up the act of pretending to be the perfect couple when they were anything but that.
But pulling out means there are bills to pay for their over-the-top wedding, none of them are inclined to pay one coin for a wedding that will not happen. As the clock is ticking to their doomsday, they begin to plot on how to ruin each other's lives until one waves the white flag and surrenders.
I found it annoyingly funny whenever Deborah made an appearance or is mentioned. Naomi and Deborah's is literally the plot of the rom-com film, Monster-in-Law. The film's title is such a fitting name for Deborah.
If you're looking for a feel-good romantic read then you should not miss out on this fantastic debut!
