Lula Dean's Little Library of Banned Books by Kirsten Miller
3.0
Was this fun and funny and based on a topic I believe in? Absolutely. I have never been for book banning, nor do I ever see myself changing that view in the future.
The premise of this was kind of delightful and made me laugh. A woman in town decides what books get pulled from the public library's shelves, and in return she offers a selection of "acceptable" books in her own little free library. But someone in town uses the cover of night to put the covers of the "acceptable" books on physical copies of the banned books instead. The result? Someone thinking they're picking up a "wholesome" book is introduced to a book about witchcraft. Or Black heroes. Or a gay character. Or feminism. You get the picture.
While I found this to be mostly fun, it also felt like the book was shoving it's messaging down my throat over and over and over again. I am on the same side as the author and even I got tired of it.
Content: language; discussion of topics in books that commonly get banned like sex, lgbtq+, etc; Nazis and Antisemitism; and more. I can't remedy it all.
