I didn't like it at first. It got much better as I was listening to Nancy Isenberg's book White Trash: The 400 Year Untold History of Class in America. That gave this book way more context. I am still surprised that so much history on class and race in America has been lost so quickly. This book was originally published in 1967. In only 50 years an understanding of class and race, especially whiteness, have changed so much of what is going on in this book is not understandable without additional historical research.
