Flame and Sparrow by S.M. Gaither

5.0

Update 06/19/24:
Just finished rereading this book and I am pretty sure I loved it even more the second time around. It’s just so freaking good. I cannot gush about the world building enough. I absolutely love every nuance and how unique it is. I cannot wait for Ash & Feather to release.

Original Review:
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for and honest review and, holy moly, it might just end up being one of my favorite reads of the year. If you are a fan of Romantasy, Enemies to Lovers, or Found Family I recommend you preorder/buy this book immediately because it is perfection!

I absolutely love the world building Gaither put into this. The hierarchy and history was really fascinating to delve into, especially from both sides of the oppositions. And the MAPS! So gorgeous and unique. I absolutely love them.

I am pretty much in love with the whole of the shade Court and NEED to dive more into their personalities/backstories. Especially Zachar (please!) AND MOTH! Quite possibly my favorite part of the whole book. I’m going to need fan art, merchandise, plushies, etc.

Dravyn is simply perfection and I am a total sucker for the MMC falling first trope. I really enjoy to intricacies or Karys’ personality as well. She’s pretty badass and yet very unsure of herself, and her compulsive quirks might be one of my favorite representations of all time. I had several circumstances where I thought, “oh my goodness I totally do that!” It’s such a pleasure watching her character arc through this book and I love how Gaither basically summed it up through Dravyn’s nicknames for her as the story progressed. Simple, yet quite effective.

I totally called the twist at the end and I am NOT happy about it, but ooooooh that ending. The final sentence was utter perfection. I’m honestly sad this is an ARC because it means I can’t immediately read the next book.
