The Women by Kristin Hannah
4.0
4.5 stars. I loved the first half and flew through it. The second half was definitely harder to read BUT I think that’s the point. There is something sick and twisted that reading about Frankie’s time in Vietnam was more enjoyable than the life she had waiting for her at home. It felt like endless suffering in part two, even compared to the MASCALs in part one.
The Rye plot was predictable but again I think it was supposed to be to highlight Frankie’s naïveté. I held out hope for Jamie and liked that I actually forgot about the possibility of him coming back until it happened.
There were little Easter eggs that caught my eye and I’m glad they came back around:
The stone she gave Jamie
“The killed in action reports are unreliable”
“I’m afraid I’ll love you until I die”
I’m so glad I read this book. I learned a lot.
