I’m not sure if I’ve ever watched the whole of the movie adaptation of Cujo. But I do have a very strong memory of walking into the living room after I was supposed to be in bed right as the rabid St Bernard throws itself at the car window. The camera POV is from inside the car and it was terrifying.

The dog isn’t the scariest thing about the book. It’s the sense of being trapped. Of all the dominoes falling just the wrong way and a series of unrelated events creating a perfect storm which traps Donna and her son Tad in a small broken down car at the mercy of a dog being driven insane by a degenerative disease.
