Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson

4.0

A retired Major and a shopkeeper form a friendship that is the talk of a small town in Yorkshire.

A charming tale that describes the lives of intelligent, open-minded people of a certain age who genuinely connect with one another and fight to be together. Major Pettigrew is humorous, sweet, and a bit grumpy. He is the well-rounded and unique character I wish Ove had been in A Man Called Ove.

This is a great read for a vacation or as a break from heavier novel reading.
