Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell by Susanna Clarke
5.0
Long, meandering, slow, complex, and utterly enjoyable. This is sort of a mix of Harry Potter, Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, and ancient myth. I've read it twice now and want to reread again... such a good book.
Recommended for YA/adult readers who are in for a challenge!
"Such nonsense!" declared Dr Greysteel. "Whoever heard of cats doing anything useful!"
"Except for staring at one in a supercilious manner," said Strange. "That has a sort of moral usefulness, I suppose, in making one feel uncomfortable and encouraging sober reflection upon one's imperfections."
