This tale of a man zig-zagging across the globe to avoid an ex-lover’s wedding was sweet and funny. And those are two words I have never used to describe a Pulitzer winner. The quirky Arthur Less’ escapades are told to us through the eyes of a mysterious (though not so mysterious about half way through) who clearly adores Arthur and sees him in a way Arthur doesn’t see himself. The Odyssey Arthur undertakes smartly mirrors a part of the tale he’s reworking for his novel.
The writing was delightful. Descriptive with a bit of a sarcastically snarky tone that was fitting for Arthur’s world. Lovely choice for the 2018 Fiction Pulitzer Prize. I’m excited to read more by Greer.
