We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
5.0
First time reading it- received a review collectors editions and loved it. Full review to come
I should preface this and say that while this book came out in 2014, I’m sad it has taken me so long to get to because it was incredible- I also haven’t really seen it on my side of booktok and therefore went in blind! The plot itself was so well crafted, with characters that weren’t entirely loveable but still drew the reader in straight from the get go. I enjoyed the style of prose, it was really nice to step outside of the realm that which I usually read in. The ending was what really hit home for me, I did not see it coming, and my heart!! It dealt with some pretty heavy stuff so depending on the age of the reader, given that it is a YA book, I highly recommend this to mature YA readers and naturally to all us adults who love a good YA book! Also, I should acknowledge my mum, she told me to read this awhile back (she used to work in a high school library) and naturally I didn’t listen to her- one day I will mum
