Three quite disparate parts make up a colorful picture (pun intended)  of the life of a struggling artist. But, not struggling in the sense of a misunderstood genius that will necessarily alter the word if she would just be allowed her rightful place in the light. No, this is much more rooted in realism, every day struggle with obstacles both big and small. For example - the Cuban heritage of the main character living in the US doesn’t mean that acts of racism must be a part of this story. And it isn’t. But the heritage plays out in other ways, and quite good ones at that.
The pacing can be a bit of a problem at times.
