Cork Dork: A Wine-Fueled Adventure Among the Obsessive Sommeliers, Big Bottle Hunters, and Rogue Scientists Who Taught Me to Live by Bianca Bosker
5.0
This book lets you in on a little secret that everyone suspects; everything you've heard about wine and the science of being an expert is bullshit. But also, that it's great fun and fascinating.
Bosker explores almost every corner of the wine world, from the "massteige" producers like Sutter Home to the hedonistic $1,500 dinner at La Paulee. If you're a beginner at wine drinking or a seasoned vet you'll be sucked in. You'll sit on the edge of your seat as she describes high stakes blind tastings. You'll even sniff and taste all your meals (wine aside) with an extra attention to taste and smell.
It was magnificent and well rounded. I would gladly read anything else Bosker writes. Her style is convivial and smart. She makes the people she spent time with in the wine world like characters and I was constantly cacking at some of the quotes she added in from Morgan.
While I'm certainly not a Cork Dork, I feel a bit closer to it. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
