Hunted by Meagan Spooner
5.0
#9: Popsugar 2018: A Book borrowed or given to you as a gift (birthday gift from Liz.)
I could not put this down. I read thee dedication page and knew I had to read it.
“To the girl
who reads by flashlight
who sees dragons in the clouds
who feels most alive in worlds that never were
who knows magic is real
who dreams
This is for you”
― Meagan Spooner, Hunted
I really enjoyed the Slavic Folklore woven into this story. I am a fan of mythology and enjoyed learning something new. Beauty and the Beast is also my favorite fairy tale, so being able to read a spin off was wonderful.
The concept of two natures was also thought-provoking. From the Beast, to the leshy...to Yeva. I was shocked at the ending, with Yeva being the Firebird, who embodied the idea of desire and wanting. I understand this, as I often accomplish things and should be happy, but am always looking for something more.
Lastly, for a teen novel, this was written with sophistication. The themes, vocabulary, and content were solid and were not childish. This book is accessible for all ages.
