Doctor Who: Forever Autumn by Mark Morris

3.0

The aliens in this book, the Hervoken, were a bit of a joke. They were like tall thin trees with Pumpkins for heads. The whole book was obviously set up to have a Halloween-y feel to it, but the aliens did not need to fit in so well with that theme, if would have been just as good if they did not look like pumpkins. The green fog that covered the town also did little to add to the ‘fear-factor,’ especially as it seemed to become thicker or thinner depending on whether the characters needed to see something coming or not. It also makes you wonder why the Halloween celebrations were still going ahead if the fog was so thick that you can barely see anything.
I also don’t understand how the tree/spaceship managed to leave at the end without ripping up the whole town like the Doctor said it would if it took off on its own.
What I did find it interesting was the way that they linked this story with the episode The Shakespearean Code because the Hervoken were at war with the Carionites before they got stuck on earth.
This book was an okay read although I would not read it again in a hurry.
