Macabre Gods by Elliott Rose
dark
tense
medium-paced
- Plot- or character-driven? A mix
- Strong character development? It's complicated
3.5
I'm torn. Elliott Rose is an incredibly talented author who's writing style makes it easy to read a story. However, this story fell flat to me when it came to emotional development. The characters are great as individuals and I definitely believed their sexual chemistry. Unfortunately we're told about the emotional development and not shown. The steamy scenes were wellwritten, but I felt myself longing for more depth outside of those.
The Anguis still remain a huge mystery and it boggled my mind that Poe wasn't the least bit curious about how her family history tied into it or how all of it worked, period. She's a sweet girl, but as a lead, I found her a bit boring.
