Ghost 19 by Simone St. James
4.0
I think this was an interesting short story by Simone St. James. There was a little bit of flaws with it here or there but overall I thought it was great.
Full review: "Ghost 19" follows Ginette Cox. Ginette leaves New York City in 1959 under a cloud and goes and stays in a home of a friend for her to recover from her breakdown. Ginette people watches her neighbors and starts making up little stories about them. That helps pass the time until she starts to realize something sinister is living in the home she is staying in and seems to want to do her and others harm.
I really enjoyed Ginette and felt for her. She's lonely and only has the delivery boy interested in her watching the neighbors. When she finally meets the local police, they only have one thought in their minds about a woman leaving alone.
What I thought St. James did well is you are left wondering if Ginette is sane or not.
The flow was really good I thought and I was surprised to get to the end of the short story. The setting taking place in 1959 really helps when you read the language being used and the views expressed by others.
I thought the ending was really good though a little abrupt. I gave this 4 stars because of that, I just think I needed something else there to tell me how everyone got on.
