Marcello's Obsession by Indi Marie
3.0
Good. But… the Plot Could Have Been Better
I couldn’t wait to read the follow up to GIO’S POSSESSION. I loved Everly and Gio. Clearly, Marcello was definitely a scene stealer. So I couldn’t wait to read his story.
In Gio’s book, Marcello rescued a girl named Samirah from human traffickers. He becomes obsessed with her and begins his pursuit to make her his. So, naturally, I was on board with the trope. Marcello was so infatuated with Samirah, who he discovered came from a crappy family, that he wanted to give her the life she deserved. A good life… and he does this by drugging and kidnapping her.
What I really couldn’t get on board with was the way he went about pursuing Samirah. I’ve read plenty of stalker romance books. Many of them have had FMCs with PTSD, having been a victim of trafficking. But I thought it was rather ironically-cruel to have Samirah go from the still dealing with the trauma of being snatched from the street to immediately being snatched again by her the man she trusted when he rescued her from the first kidnapping! To further add insult to injury, this woman had the unfortunate luck of being born into THE WORST family in the universe. Samirah just couldn’t win for losing.
