Interesting plot with two different timelines that have connections. The concept shows a lot of promise but you don’t get what you think and perhaps also ought to have been given. Despite what is said in the blurb this one is namely not a stand-alone piece but needs the two following books to answer the questions - a lot of them, and huge. So that is a bit frustrating, because I don’t think that I will be reading the other two books in the trilogy. The editing, first and foremost, is to be criticized, and there are a lot here to be edited. You could argue that the author have an unique voice, and that would be true. That voice, I feel, is not altogether used to tell coherent stories with a language that holds together and a level of literary style that is applicable to the circumstances.
