Briefly, A Delicious Life by Nell Stevens

3.0

3.5 / 5. I genuinely do not know how I feel about this book. My one secure emotion is that the best way for me to consume literary fiction is via audiobook, which was a fun discovery. I feel like it's a book that has pitched itself as far more salacious than its pages actually are. In reality, it's an incredibly sad book about a ghost and the woman she becomes infatuated with. who in turn has a very depressing time of it. The integration of real people makes it even more thoughtful. I found the writing lyrical and interesting and it moved along at a great pace considering. There were too many undefined characters for my liking - I got completely lost as to who was who with some of the smaller, supporting characters - but I still enjoyed reading it. I feel it's rather quiet in its execution, which might disappoint some readers, but was something I appreciated it for. I felt a bit underwhelmed by some of the writer's choices, though, particularly with the storyline of our ghost-y narrator.
