This was the first book I’ve read by A.K. Evans and I really enjoyed it. It was a quick, fast paced read and a great introduction to the cast of characters for this series. It did refer back to characters from previous series, but I didn’t find that it took away from anything since I hadn’t read them first.
Remington Archer, Remi, owns a self defense training company with his two brothers. He was a swoony hero with a soft heart and a need to protect. When he met Kaia, he knew instantly she was going to mean something to him. Before he knew her strength of character and the trials she’d faced in life, he could tell she was not someone who would back down, and that is what he’d just told his brothers he was looking for.
Kaia had had a tough childhood, only surviving because her sister shielded her. Now, faced with an abusive ex that won’t go away, she is determined to take her life back, and finds Remi is not only the perfect man to teach her to defend herself, but also the perfect man for her.
This book was a good blend of romance and suspense. There was never a doubt Kaia’s ex would resurface, and that ratchets up the intensity. The romance between Kaia and Remi happens quickly, but under the circumstances it seemed believable.
