Acts of Service by Lillian Fishman

yeah you can tell the author is a privileged white woman who went to NYU

this book felt soooo homophobic which is hilarious considering it's marketed as a queer book. the book is misogynistic, biphobic, lesbophobic, and in no way should anyone find this book empowering. anyone who claims it is should take some time to reflect on their internalized misogyny.

i knew this would be nothing more than a one star not even a quarter into the book when it started saying that "being with women is easier because you're similar" and the book continues to go on to say that being with men is just so hard because women aren't supposed to like that. like??? i'm sorry???? in what world have women ever been shamed, bullied, and FUCKING HATE CRIMED for being attracted to men? in what world have women always just known it's so easy to like women and it's men we really have a hard time being with? not to mention that by "similar" the author must mean bodies because did she just forget about personalities? hobbies? interests? the only thing that can make people similar is whether you are a man or woman i guess.

the introspection is so tedious and boring, with no new or big revelations on sex or sexuality, and there is certainly nothing "daring, bold, and empowering" about it as the reviews have claimed. there is nothing empowering about being controlled by some arrogant straight rich white man who is convinced he "knows what every woman wants"

this book feels like it was written by a very misogynistic man living out his fantasy of lesbians falling in love with him because he's just that cool
