I was JUST about to ground my 12yo son forever for recommending yet another book that broke my heart into a million pieces when that same book turned around and started to heal me. Over and over again, as each voice had its turn, I'd watch 12yo Willow move from the most devastating moment in her life to the part that comes after.
Yes, this book features a girl who was different and loses everything in an instant. But it's not about her, it's about those around her. It's about us. It's about what we do, how we connect, how we cope. It's about pain and hope and trying--or not. It's about found family and acceptance. It's about change, too. So many things.
So I guess my son won't be getting grounded this time, because by the time the audiobook ended my heart was better off than it was when it began. Highly recommend for ages 10 and up.
