This was very different from what I expected and I enjoyed it so much more for that. The fictional author felt like a real person writing their memoir and the other characters were great too. I loved the hindsight of the experienced researcher that came through quite often. It was also very funny. Personally, I didn't care so much about the mystery plot, but there was enough substance in other areas that I still quite liked this.
