Our Wives Under The Sea by Julia Armfield
3.0
I can't remember why I added this to my Libby requests, but I did and it arrived so I listened. First I will say the narration was excellent and the writing is beautiful. I've seen this book referred to as "horror" and I really cannot agree with that at all. There is no horror, not even a thriller aspect, as far as I can tell. I mean Leah's time stuck under the sea could be seen as thrilling or harrowing, but that's about it. I think Miri and how she handled it when Leah returned was sort of wishy-washy and a bit blah. I've also seen this compared with the film The Shape of Water, and I can see the vague (very vague) comparisons, but thankfully it was very little because I hated that movie and would have thrown this book across the room if it were too similar. All in all, if you're looking for a book that is about a marriage that is suffering due to one partner's job and the horrible accident that happens there, read this book. If you're looking for quirky horror, I don't think this is it.
