Maid of Secrets by Jennifer McGowan
4.0
3.5/5 stars.
This is a good foundation for the rest of the series.
I love the combination of young adult/historical fiction/mystery that is interwoven in this book. It's a step apart from young adult novels that I've read recently. It keeps you on your toes, second guessing yourself and completely on edge.
I love the characters of the Maids Honor. I liked the dynamics between them. I enjoyed the chemistry between Meg and Rafe. In fact, I love both Meg and Rafe a lot.
I didn't pick that the villain in the end was who it was. In all honestly, I actually thought it was one of the Maids of Honor with the help of one of the Spanish men. How wrong I was.
In the end, this book holds so much promise and I cannot wait to read the rest of the series. Especially since it is set during one of my favourite periods in history.
