A little slow to get into, but so worth it. Something about this felt so real which really puts you in an uncomfortable position when reading. Justine’s naivety and blind faith in Mrs Price is also quite enjoyable and provides a unique reading experience that I enjoyed a lot.
I didn’t really see the point in including the 2014 POV at first, but after reading it does a great job at providing an unreliable sort of ending that I’ll definitely be thinking about.
This book is also provides a great exploration of power and racism. When no adult characters believe or trust Justine, a fellow student becomes her so to say partner in crime. I thought Amy’s storyline was a clever way to connect power dynamics and racism too. Even Justine turned on Amy when Mrs Price began to target her.
Very glad I finally picked this up!
