This book has an interesting setting, an entertaining protagonist, and a compelling hook. The story begins spooky and mysterious but turns horrific and grotesque. I am not generally a fan of horror-genre stories but did still enjoy Mexican Gothic. I do recommend it, but only to those that like or are open to that type of book.
Graphic: Body horror and Incest
Moderate: Chronic illness, Confinement, Death, Emotional abuse, Gore, Rape, Sexism, Sexual assault, and Toxic relationship
Minor: Domestic abuse, Forced institutionalization, and Cannibalism
