The Hurricane Wars by Thea Guanzon

3.0

This debut novel has an intriguing premise, but it struggles to fully realize its potential. The story feels a bit overambitious, and the execution doesn't quite live up to the promise of the synopsis.

While the concept is not entirely original, it's still entertaining. However, the lack of cohesion between the first and second halves of the book disrupts the narrative flow. Part II is significantly stronger, with more compelling characters and a more developed storyline.

The characters, while not unlikeable, lack the depth to truly captivate the reader. Their development improves as the story progresses, but some readers may find it comes too late.

Despite these shortcomings, I found the overall experience to be positive. The story has a unique charm, and I was curious enough to pick up the sequel, which is beautifully presented.
