Although there are 3 books in this series, I would say that it really is 1 book split into three.  There is only one plot throughout. 

Initially I feared it was going to be just another romance set in a fantastical world. But the second and third book surprised me. There is character growth, on multiple MC fronts. There is suspense and intrigue up until  the end. And with so many POVs I was impressed with how cohesive it still felt. 

All in all a very surprising end of year find.
