This has been a memorable story ever since I saw the movie years ago—and possibly read the book long ago too, but I couldn’t remember. Despite being a middle-grade, this book carries a timeless message relevant to all ages about kindness and acceptance of those who look different.

Loads of middle school (and high school) drama, but the friendships that came out of it are very sweet to read about.
