Chronicle of a Death Foretold by Gabriel García Márquez
5.0
Wow. This is super tight. One of the most perfect books I've ever read. The premise is simple, there is no mystery, just a re-telling of facts that get murkier the longer you look at them. Not a single word is wasted. This is completely unlike any other Marquez book I've ever read. There is no magic or mysticism, there is no messy genealogical tangle to try and follow, just the desperation and disbelief of a small town trying to figure out how such a horrible thing was allowed to happen. Brilliant.
