Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
5.0
Cooger & Dark’s Pandemonium Shadow Show has arrived to a sleepy town in Illinois shortly after midnight on a crisp October day, bringing Halloween a week early. Two teen boys will soon find out the dangers of wishes and the nightmares they can bring. Beware the autumn people.
Right after I finished Fahrenheit 451 I asked myself why didn’t I read this sooner? The same was said when I was halfway through Something Wicked This Way Comes. So happy to have finally read the book where my favourite quote “beware the autumn people” comes from, and it’s part of a larger beautiful passage.
Bradbury’s story is lyrically haunting with gothic prose woven into every line. I was pleasantly surprised with how spooky it was. The words created such an autumn vibe and pull you into the book effortlessly.
Come visit the carnival… you’ll have to ride the carousel l that ages you forward or backward depending on the way it spins. Don’t hurry off just yet you need to meet the Dust Witch whose eyes are sewn shut so don’t be alarmed when she touches you as she feels emotion through her hands. But most importantly The Illustrated Man, he’ll have lots to talk to you about.
I’m such a sucker for coming of age stories of all shapes and sizes so no wonder I enjoyed this, 5✨. Looking forward to chatting about it with @jobis89 for her readalong!
