Spent the first twenty pages or so thinking "What am I reading and who are these people?!" but then it gets into it and... I can see why this isn't some people's cup of tea. None of the characters are likeable, or realistic. They are all vapid and privileged and do horrible things. Nothing much happens - the vast majority is the 24 year old protagonist alone in her New York apartment, drugging herself into a deep sleep. But she does this to escape the grief of losing her (abusive) parents and the relationship she wanted with them but never had, to forget about life and herself. It's sad and brutal and although completely farfetched, a great depiction of depression.
Moderate: Mental illness and Suicide
