Finished this one earlier than anticipated but it was just hard to put down. This is shaping up to become an epic conclusion to this series and this book is already really pulling the punches. It comes out swinging right from its very first sentence and doesn't really let off the gas pedal until the end of the book.
I loved that we got a recurring POV with the scientist/doctor from Cibola Burn and all of those chapters added a lot to the overarching Mystery and were just fascinating to read.
Our new POV being a teenage girl with having a lot of teenage girl problems felt slightly annoying in the beginning but that is kind of my only minor gripe with this book. She came into her own pretty fast though and the whole thing was also more about her interacting with the other characters and just all the crazy and (certainly in her point of view) world shattering events that kept happening around her.
I loved the fact that you got somewhat rewarded for reading the short stories. The references from Strange Dogs for example was something that caught my eye immediately, while The Churn as a relevant short story only clicked with me until the eventual reveal (and I am still kind of mad that I did not catch it sooner! :D). But my point is. Going full chronological with the series absolutely has a pay off with this book and I would recommend.
There was a big emotional moment that didn't hit as hard as it probably should have. Maybe it had something to with it being shown from a different perspective but in retrospect it should be the perfect perspective for this event to occur (I hope this makes sense). Nevertheless the aftermath still had me emotionally wrecked and in tears so it did accomplish its goal in the end.
This book also has like the fastest moving plot out of any of them and all the twists and turns just keep you excited. Towards the end I pretty much predicted how it was gonna play out but it was still an exciting ride and just offered up so much fuel for the final installment of the series, which I decided I will start immediately.
